Reduce the amount of HTTP requests by using Combo Handler Service from Yahoo!

Everyone now knows that reducing the amount of HTTP-requests is good for the site-performance. Using CDN is a way to reduce the amount of HTTP requests from one server, which improves the performance. Now Yahoo! comes up with Combo Handler Service which alows you to call several Javascript files by just one HTTP-request.

Firefox 3 is trying to set a world record

The official launch of Firefox 3 is nearby. Hopefully some anoying bugs will be fixed by then.

Firefox is trying to set a world record by getting as many people as possible to download Firefox 3 on one day. In other words “Spread Firefox | Download Day 2008″.

Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) will render in standard compliant mode by default

In contrast to previously made posts by the IEBlog team, Internet Explorer 8 will, by default, interpret web content in the most standards compliant way it can. This decision was made due to the pressure of the web community.

Bugs & fixes: Content on PNG background

When using the IE6 fix (filter) for setting a (transparent) PNG as a background for a content box, element within this box can not be selected, clicked, etc. To overcome this problem, simply attach the style position: relative to the content of the content box.

Bye Bye Internet Explorer 6

Microsoft announced it will push Internet Explorer 7 next month (February 12) through the automatic update in Windows XP. Microsoft offers a solution for companies who want to keep Internet Explorer 6 on their company systems… but who wants to keep IE6? For us web developers February 2008 is the month Internet Explorer 6 support is history!

Microsoft will release a beta of IE8 in the first half of calendar 2008

Microsoft “announces” it will release a beta of Internet Explorer version 8 in the first half of 2008. What’s new in IE8? It will at least support the web standard more than any previous version of Internet Explorer. IE8 now renders the “Acid2 Face” correctly in IE8 standards mode.
